Week 12 | Lisa + Flying Cross

Week 12 | Lisa + Flying Cross

Annetta | This weeks square is a very gorgeous one. I was not so excited to work on it because I ran out of yarn. I've have come across a pattern that is emerging. I have high hopes of starting the project early and finishing it early on in the week, come Sunday and I've just started! I tell myself this new week will be different. With all of that said, I've made very little progress on this weeks square and will be playing catchup on Monday. I've now crocheted all the squares after this week and am on my second round of the same squares, but a different color combo. When I look at my started square I already know I will love it when it is finished. So far the colors have looked so well on this square. I'll also post the finished piece once I've done.

Favorite moment of the week: This week we decided to do a spontaneous trip somewhere, anywhere really. We need a break from the routine and to explore a little. The city we decided to visit was Salzburg, Austria (cue the Sound of Music). I would say that the whole trip was my favorite moment of the week. Who doesn't love a weekend road trip on a whim and to Salzburg of all places? We had lots of fun. We explored the castle up top, walked the whole old town and even visited a kids toy museum. I personally would have loved to stay another night longer, but weekends are just so short.

Stephanie | I kept intending to get to this block earlier in the week, but it just didn't happen. We got home from our surprise birthday trip for 2 of my girls on Sunday night, and Monday found us right in the garden getting seeds planted and work done. Its been a non-stop few weeks. I finally got to making this on Saturday - as a thunderstorm came rolling in, forcing us to stop working outside and seek shelter. It got very loud and very dark, so I did not have good lighting for my assembling part. This block is called Flying Cross, it looks as though it is spinning, which I think is pretty neat. I ended up using a very Spring-y pallet this week, which I also really like. It looks a little more complicated that it really is, just plain squares and a few half square triangles, it worked up quickly.

Favorite moment of the week: My favorite moment was our trip to Ft. Bragg CA to celebrate our 2 kids birthdays.. We haven't been on a trip/get-a-way in a year, so it was much needed. We got to drive about 4 hrs west and we found the ocean (yay). We visited Glass Beach, Point Cabrillo light house - and saw whales, MacKerricher Beach as well as Pudding Creek Trestle. The weather was perfect, the beaches were perfect, it was wonderful! None of us wanted to head home it wasn't enough time, but that means we can plan another trip soon.

Week 11 | Corner Star + Fall Blossom

Week 11 | Corner Star + Fall Blossom

Stephanie: I like the look of this 2 color corner star. Somehow my one blocks was off in size, so my lines are a little wonky, but overall I am happy with this block. I kinda rushed this week and we are leaving for the weekend. My two older girls have birthdays this month, one this week and one next week. In place of a birthday party, we usually do a weekend trip away to celebrate as a family. So, I wanted to get my block done before we leave on Friday. I really love this teal floral fabric, I don't know how I haven't pulled this from the stash yet. The pattern used an orange fabric and gives it a sun flare look. I didn't have any in the orange/yellow tones, so the birthday girl this week helped with color choice.

Favorite moment of the week: Celebrating my daughters 7th birthday and looking forward to a weekend at the beach.

Annetta: It's not fall that's here, but spring. I guess the pattern should be called 'Spring Blossom' instead. Spring actually start in like 3 days and its also starting to look like spring outside. This weeks square didn't look like a pretty fall leaf or a spring one. It actually looks like a hot mess, but I'm sure I'm the only one that really notices that one extra petal in the middle of the square. When I was crocheting the square something wasn't adding up which made me put things on hold until I had the courage to try again. Well... I never restarted the square and made that extra petal work. Can you see if you can spot it? The square this week isn't my favorite. It was designed by three different ladies which made the square itself not really well designed in my opinion.

Favorite moment of the week: My favorite moment of the week was when my husband came home early after he gave his presentation on Friday. It gave us a chance to walk to Tin's practice together. Tin was way ahead of us on his scooter while we slowly followed behind with the dog and talked. On the way back from dropping him off I got to take some pictures of all the spring flowers that have come out the past couple of weeks. It's also our first spring in our new place so there is much to discover when it comes to flowers that bloom near us. I also haven't had much time to enjoy my other job, photography and capturing the everyday beauty.

Week 10 | Moroccan Window + Hole in the Barn Door

Week 10 | Moroccan Window + Hole in the Barn Door

Annetta: Stephanie and I were in the same boat this week! We did the same thing. We both had hard weeks, we were emotional and unhappy plus didn't want to do anything. I ended up crocheting a completely different project that actually made me feel better and I worked on it during my free time and not the square I was supposed to be working on. I ended up starting and almost finishing a crochet cardigan, but got stuck on the sleeves which ended up being too big for me. The project left me scrambling on Saturday and mostly Sunday to finish it the Moroccan Window. I finished the square around 10pm Sunday night and wow, there were so many stitches to crochet despite it being an easy pattern in and of itself. I thought I would really not like this square, but I went rogue with my colors and picked them as I went along. Really happy I decided to pick my own colors because it turned out to be a nice square. I added an extra row into the pattern plus switched up a row because I am noticing that my squares are coming out smaller then they should. The Morracon Window needs to be only made once, but I think I would like to make it again as the pattern is a very simple and pleasing one without any holes.

Favorite moment of the week: Saturday was my favorite moment of the week for sure. It was a family day where we got to enjoy a slow morning of watching homemade videos in bed followed by a pancake breakfast. It took some time, but we all managed to go out for a walk in the forest before we needed to drop off Tin at his friends birthday party while Lubos and I went to the movies to see Captain Marvel. Our friend who is staying with us in our spare room blessed us with tickets to the movie. I wish all Saturday's were like this one.

Stephanie: This ended up being a hard week for me. I was emotional and unhappy. I didn't want to do anything. But I did work on making a scrap quilt with some pretty scrap fabrics I got for my birthday a few months ago. I spent most of my free time working on that and not this project. That left me scrambling late Saturday night after doing some serious garden work to find a pattern and prep it in the dark. I picked this one because it seemed simple and I could prep and sew quickly which is what I needed after procrastinating for a week. I liked that this didn't require white fabric and it was a good spot to try out this floral/white fabric I've been dying to try. I think it is so pretty, it gave a good contrast against the red/white stripes.

Favorite moment of the week: After such a rough week, the highlight was adding some baby chicks and ducks to our tiny flock. We had 4 chickens, 2 roosters and 2 hens. We added 11 chickens and 4 ducks. They are so cute! We currently have the new babies housed in our bathroom....not as much fun.

Week 9 | Dutchman's Puzzle + Sweet and Fair

Week 9 | + Sweet and Fair + Dutchman's Puzzle

Stephanie: I liked this block, the Dutchman's Puzzle, also known as the Flying Dutchman. It consists of 8 flying geese blocks. Simple and easy, with a traditional look. One light and dark contrasting triangle gives the windmill look. I think this would make a great quilt, either the same color scheme, or a variety of colors.

Favorite moment of the week: My favorite thing about this week is seeing some flower bulbs popping up around the property. This is our first spring in our new place and we have no idea what is planted here. Its a fun surprise when something comes through the wet ground. Spring is almost here!

Annetta: I tried to pick an easy pattern this week because my family and I went on a skiing trip for 4 nights. I wasn't sure if we would have a signal up in the mountains and therefore planned to crochet my square in two days. It was a good thing I picked Sweet and Fair because it was a crazy busy week before the trip. I pretty much followed the pattern, but towards the end, I added an extra row of single crochet because my squares have been ending up being a bit too small. The blanket I am crocheting is a huge one and calls for 3 squares per pattern, but this particular pattern I only do once. I might actually do it two more times and switch it out with another one if life gets a bit intense and I need to take things easy at some point. Anyway, I loved this weeks pattern and think that the versions of color are endless. Could be a very fun pattern when it comes to color play.

Favorite moment of the week: My favorite part this week a bit surprising. I should say the ski trip was my favotire and it was, but something surpassed it. My true favorite part was coming home to a clean house. After being away from my home for a few nights and coming back to it I have a deeper appreciation for it and how I have designed and styled my home. I can for that moment see it as others see it versus the way I usually see it, a place that needs to be cleaned. This has been the first time I managed to clean the house before a trip and I have plans to make it happen every time now.
